Have irritable bowel syndrome or other symptoms of gastrointestinal distress?   Researchers are now figuring out what we’ve all known all along… …that not only is our brain health connected to our gut health, but our gut health is connected to our brain health!   You already know this… that your digestion and your thoughts and feelings are directly linked. You know that sudden feeling when you are scared and you become instantly nauseous? As a mom I got that feeling all the time when my kids were younger and I lost sight of them for a moment in a …

Anxiety Doubles Cancer Mortality. It Doesn’t Have To… Here’s How.

Presented Sept 20, 2016 at the 29th European College of Neuropsychoparmacology Congress, the largest study to date looking at patients with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) reveals that anxiety more than doubles the risk of a mortality from cancer. Even after adjusting for smoking, alcohol intake, sedentary lifestyle and other co-morbid disease conditions, just having anxiety independently increases cancer mortality rates.     The Study: Looking at over 15,000 patients older than 40 years old from 1993 through 1997, researchers followed the participants through 2015. Participants with a diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) were followed for cancer diagnosis and …

Don’t Let A Doctor (Or A Google Search) Limit Your Healing Potential

The entire model of medicine is backwards and needs a major re-do.     The way the current medical model is set up is to test and report the outcome of a medication or surgery or intervention in the scientific literature, and to use these statistics as the standard of care.   I’m very familiar with the scientific method of research not only through keeping on top of the current scientific literature to as a licensed physician… but also because growing up as the daughter of one of the lead scientists at the National Institutes of Health I attended …

Decrease Your Pain Without Medication

Pain is a big deal.   Considering pain is the number one reason patients seek medical care and that pain issues affect more Americans than heart disease, diabetes and cancer combined… patients reach for pain medications in alarming amounts at alarming rates and with alarming side effects. Prescription opioid drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the US, and these rates are steadily on the rise. Many pain medications are addictive and cause incalculable harm to the dependent patient struggling with pain issues. I know in my practice working with folks to reduce their dependency on addictive …

Sick Of Getting Sick? Double Check You Are Doing These 8 Things

In a huge meta-analysis, published recently (May 3, 2016 in JAMA) researchers found that up to 70% of antibiotics prescribed during a two year period were actually inappropriate prescriptions. This is a hugely important study, because with the recent exponential rise of antibiotic resistant infections, each and every use of antibiotics absolutely MUST be warranted. When we truly *do* need to use antibiotics (and they can save lives, make no mistake about that) we need them to WORK. Add on to that the unnecessary chemical load to the body and the potential side effects, both annoying and deadly serious, that …

Acupuncture Medically Proven To Help Constipation

Acupuncture has been proven to not only significantly help relieve constipation… …but it actually helps relieve chronic, severe constipation not responding to other treatments! On top of that, acupuncture was shown to have long term, persistent effects in helping to solve constipation. Woot!   Why aren’t we hearing about this (yet still seeing endless plugs for Metamucil and fiber bulking agents as well as new Rx drugs such as Linzess and Amitiza on TV?)   Because holistic remedies never get the same press that over-the-counter and prescription remedies do. But that’s what you have me for! I only share uplifting, …
