Trauma Earlier In Life Ups Risk Of Surgery Later… Here’s Why

A new study shows what we can already *feel* — — that trauma in childhood affects our physical health as an adult.     Our cells, organs, tissues, physical body holds on to the effects of emotional trauma and this energetic tension literally changes how our body is able to function. I’ve written previous blog posts highlighting this, how our body’s health is an expression of our emotional well being, in articles such as:   Your Outlook Can Literally Speed Brain Decline (and 9 ways to stop it) Anxiety Doubles Cancer Mortality. It Doesn’t Have To… Here’s How. OCD May …

The Hidden Benefits Of Grounding: Why It Helps More Than Just Your Body

Clear air is awesome and nurturing. Juicing is powerful and cleansing. Meditation is relaxing and centering. Purified water is hydrating and supportive. Nutritional supplements and even prescription medications can be balancing and healing.   But inevitably, with every holistic healing modality I worked with, there would be some patients who benefit greatly and some who get absolutely no results whatsoever. Some people heal with a certain diet. Some heal with a particular exercise practice. Some heal with a prescription medication, some with a supportive supplement, some with a life saving surgery, some with a chiropractic adjustment, some with acupuncture. …

To My Husband (Yes, I Said Husband!)

Exactly one month ago today… this happened:         This man is absolute strength during the bad times and incredibly playful during the good. In short, he’s wonderful. He has been by my side during the absolute rock bottom moments of my life, standing there with arms open wide and a heart open wider. And not just for me, but with unwavering support for my children as well.     I feel in love with Steve during the worst crap storm of my life, and I am married to him now with an incredibly grateful heart. I wanted …

The Quickest Way To Heal Is To Surrender, Here’s How

Surrendering is safe.   Working intuitively with patients all over the globe, I’ve learned a lot about loss, grief and healing. I can say for a fact that what heals people in real life contrasts quite vividly to what I *learned* about grief and healing in med school. I still remember being in medical school and learning all about the classic model of the grief process, set forth by the amazing and brave Elisabeth Kubler-Ross:   D A B D A (I’m sure many of my readers, who are also healers, are familiar with this acronym:) meaning: D — denial …

You Have Angel Wings Inside Of You

This is my second painting that I painted last month. Remember my reminder to stand up tall?   Well, this one is my reminder to: Stop. Grow Still Take A Deep Breath.     It occurred to me, when I was working with a patient on his breathing issues, that our lungs remind me very much of wings. I told him to take a big deep breath of air as if he were stretching out his wings behind him, imagining his lungs filling, his shoulder blades growing wings, and his arms reaching out and up as if he were …

Posture Affects Your Health

I just finished teaching my annual Chakra Healing Class… and one of the most interesting topics came up. On of the participants (thank you Steve!) mentioned that he noticed becoming more short of breath when his posture slumped.   That brought on a wonderful discussion of all the different ways that poor posture literally physically affects your health… …everything from dry mouth and dental issues to decreased oxygenation, decreased sleep quality and even increased ADHD symptoms!     But posture affects more than just our physical body… it affects our spirit.   In class I shared a link to this …

Recovering Memory In Dementia — One Simple Trick

New research shows that in Alzheimer’s patients, long term memory can be regained through listening to music!   Listening to music that is familiar to the dementia patient from their past reawakens long term memories about who the person is, who their family is, and the context of their life. This has huge implications in quality of living, in social interactions and even in activity levels. If you play music that holds special meaning to a patient experiencing memory loss, you are very likely to help them recover context and depth and recognition in the form of long term memory …
