You Can’t Lose Stress Weight By Dieting, Do These 10 Lifestyle Hacks Instead

Are you having fun yet?  As much as the holidays can be a meaningful time of connection, damn can it be stressful.  You might typically associate stress with a tension headache, or difficulty sleeping at night, or being in a bad mood.  But did you know stress also causes weight gain?  But if you don’t know that stress causes weight gain, you’ll probably wind up blaming your diet and then stress out about every bite of food you eat. Just In Time For Easter: How To Eat Chocolate To Boost Your Metabolism

I’m really excited to tell you about today’s medical study, because I love chocolate so much and I particularly love milk chocolate. Most medical studies seem to focus on the healthy properties of dark chocolate (for good reason, as dark chocolate is a rich source of antioxidants) but I can’t seem to make myself fall in love with dark chocolate. But milk chocolate? Ummm yeah, can’t get enough. So this interesting medical study caught my eye. Published in the FASEB Journal, June 2021, researchers found that eating milk chocolate daily reduced the amount of calories that study …

Your Ultimate Guide To A New Year, New You & A New Metabolism

It’s no secret that one of the most popular New Years resolutions of all time is to lose weight. In my medical opinion, losing weight is not about reducing calorie intake, and it’s not honestly even predominately about what you eat at all. Although making nutrient dense food choices is a crucial part of your long term health, the type of weight gain I see most commonly is actually driven by stress. A combination of poor sleep, high cortisol levels, and a decrease in metabolism all combine to make losing weight, or even staying at the same …

Grounding To Boost Your Metabolism & Lose Weight

Directly touching the earth impacts your metabolic functions, and as I found out, can even help you lose weight.   The first study to look at the basal metabolic rate of grounding was published in 2010. In this study, half of the participants were grounded and half were sham-grounded in a double-blind placebo-controlled study. After grounding (or sham grounding) the patients for 40 minutes, all of the parameters of metabolic function immediately improved in all of the grounded patients, but that boost was not seen in any of the ungrounded patients. Heart rate increased slightly, respiratory rate increased, and …

Yet Another Study Showing That Overweight Is Healthier Than Underweight

A new study, this time looking at breast cancer, found the same thing that several previous studies have revealed: it’s better to be overweight than underweight.   The latest study, published in JAMA Oncology on June 21, 2018, found that a higher BMI was associated with lowered breast cancer rates. Especially if the BMI was higher in early adulthood, there was a reduced risk of premenopausal breast cancer.   The Study:   Researchers collected data from over 750,000 premenopausal women throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Looking at the BMI of women ages 18 to 54 years old and …

Fat Shaming Causes Disease… But It Doesn’t Have To

Fat shaming (not obesity itself!) directly increases a person’s risk for metabolic syndrome and subsequent health issues, a new study finds.   And why is there fat shaming in the first place? As I will go over below, there is an incredible wealth of medical research showing that having a higher BMI is actually advantageous to longevity, so there really is no need for our society to have an obesity bias to start with! Certainly dropping this attitude and reducing the internalized stress associated with weight will decrease diabetes risk, heart disease risk and the rate of metabolic disease in …
