Thoughts on health… the creative process aint always pretty.

Hi! I spent a good portion of the weekend having fun with my paints and papers and favorite quotes for a set of artwork I’m creating called Quote Splat. For no other reason then I woke up one day and decided to write down my top 10 favorite quotes of all time and illustrate them. I’m going to start showing them to you every Wednesday starting this Wednesday and giving them away each week for free! Because creating anything… whether it is art or a meal or a new way to help your loved ones laugh or a …

Thoughts On Health… Seriousness Is A Disease

I am very excited to present this video to you today.  This is a feeling I’ve had rumbling around in my heart for a while now… this feeling that seriousness is akin to a disease state.  Certainly there is a time and a place for seriousness… reacting seriously to some life situations can be life saving, as you become focused, clear-headed, and intent on a goal. The problem with being serious only arises when we live in this reactionary state. What was meant to be a short time response to intense, and even life-threatening, situations has a tendency to become …

Favorite Children’s Books

I was going through our old stash of children’s books… organizing our bookshelves… and I found myself lost in a daze of the sweet sweet memories of reading picture books to my children. Oh how I loved that. Although we have evolved into reading chapter books now, there are so many great children’s books that I found along the way that I want to hold on to. I thought I’d share some of the gems I discovered with you all here, since I know there are mama’s out there with kids young enough to sit on their lap and enjoy …

Photographing… Me?

So I am taking a four week photography class by Vivienne McMaster, called Wading In. This course is dedicated to self portraits… expressing yourself through turning the camera around and snapping pictures! It is hard to muster the courage to do this, at least it has been for me… but it’s rewarding too. I have been exploring photography a bit because I’ve needed to learn how to take pictures of my art for my Etsy shop and pictures of just about everything else in my life because of this blog, and I really love it. But I’ve never had any …

Custom Canvas, from start to finish!

I have, literally, just created one of the most fun custom paintings I have ever had the pleasure of painting! This one was so fun for me, I almost passed out a few times from the sheer cuteness of it all while I painted.   The original sketch of the artwork…   I love painting custom pet portraits. I offer that here in my Etsy shop. A fabulous woman over in the UK wanted me to paint some of her pets for her… pets past and present, all gathered together in a field. This is right up my alley, because …

Second best thing to a new sofa…

Well, I’ve been wanting a new sofa, because the cushions are all shot on this one. But that’s not in the cards any time soon, so I did the next best thing… took the old white slip cover that originally came with the sofa, and dyed it bright, tropical blue! So I picked up about 6 packs of Rit dye (in Teal)… is there an organic alternative to Rit? Probably. But I had visions of steeping onion peels and beet juice and to be honest, I’ve tried that on Easter Eggs and it just never came out to be …

My New Head of Hair!

Okay, so it isn’t that much different. But do you remember when I was in a funk with my hair and begged you fine folks for some ideas? I loved the feedback and thought about it long and hard. And the one thing I hadn’t done yet was Henna — thanks for the suggestion, Aleka! So I went for it. And I love it. I can definitely give henna a double thumbs up. I don’t know why I had never tried it before… it’s seems like a no-brainer for someone who loves to keep things natural… basically it’s like a …
