OCD May Stem From Birth Trauma

A new study (published in JAMA Psychiatry Oct 5, 2016) reveals that the more stressful the birth is on the baby, the higher the risk that baby has for developing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) decades later.   Children who were born prematurely and children who experienced stress during delivery both had statistically significant increases in the rates of developing OCD during adolescence and young adulthood. Stressful birth circumstances included: maternal smoking during pregnancy, cesarean section delivery, preterm birth, low APGAR scores, unusually low or high birth weight, breech presentation at labor and more.   The Study: Researchers looked at a 2.4 …

Your Extra Weight Is Not As Bad For You As Your Doctor Wants You To Think

I am always reading the medical literature looking for positive messages to share with you. And during the holiday season… when most of us have naturally gained a little weight… this is the perfect time to share today’s uplifting medical study with you. This latest study didn’t receive much attention (the negative scary reports always seem to be the ones your doctors want to share with you!) but I think it should have.   Researchers looked at two very large databases, examining body mass (Body Mass Index — BMI) and metastatic renal (kidney) cancer survival rates. But inevitably, with every holistic healing modality I worked with, there would be some patients who benefit greatly and some who get absolutely no results whatsoever.   Some folks heal with a certain …

Behavioral, lifestyle, and environmental stressors absolutely MUST be addressed… and today’s medical report is proof that a medication alone is just not enough to help. Interestingly, people with high levels of job stress are statistically the MOST likely to reach for a drug to help treat depression… yet are also most likely to find that drug therapy …

Recently published in the BMJ (British Medical Journal) on May 31, 2016… …researchers found that the stimulant methylphenidate (commonly prescribed for children to treat ADHD: Ritalin, Daytrana, Concerta) increases the risk of cardiac arrhythmias.     It’s back-to-school time… a time when children are often diagnosed and treated for ADHD (average age of diagnosis of ADHD: 7 years old.) 11% of the American pediatric population is awarded a diagnosis of ADHD… …with about 6% of all of our children in the United States actively on a Rx medication to treat it.
