I Want You To Think Of One Way To Be Playful Today. Here’s Why

Play is not only a relief and a respite from the seriousness that stress, illness and trauma bring to our lives, it is actually therapy. Play time is therapeutic time, point blank. Child psychologists use this healing tool often, because play is a child’s way to express and release any inner turmoil or fears that the child doesn’t even consciously know they have. But it isn’t only therapeutic for children, it’s therapeutic for adults too. In fact, I would argue that engaging in some form of play daily is one of the best things you can do to safeguard …

How To Stick With Your Long Term Health Goals, Even When It Sucks

I just finished with a wonderful medical conference in which I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Terry Wahls speak. She so impressive, with the amount of medical experience, knowledge and wisdom she possesses… particularly in the field of autoimmune disorders and how diet impacts our body’s health. Visit her website here if you are interested in learning more about that. That’s not what I loved most, however. The part I loved most was when she talked about helping patients get clear on why they even want to do the work of healing in the first place. She …

How To Feel At Home In Your Body

Most of us live with a sense of not really inhabiting our body fully. We want things to change about our body or about our health before we will actually want to be in it. Or we have some judgement against it, or even disdain for it, on some level. We feel, subconsciously maybe, that our body is against us. We can feel that it’s too damaged by health issues to truly cherish. We have a half hearted sense of tolerating our bodies for the time being. No! You aren’t settling for that! Your body, in exactly …

Heart Disease In Women As A Response To Trauma

Today I have a very interesting new study to share with you, published just this year on March 17, 2021 in JAMA Cardiology. Most studies on heart disease focus on the male population, so this one really caught my eye — specifically focusing on the link between heart disease in women with a history of trauma. Looking at almost 400,000 women, researchers identified women diagnosed with PTSD and matched them to age and cardiovascular risk correlated female controls with no history of PTSD. They then looked at ischemic heart disease outcomes, including new onset coronary artery disease, angina or …

Hearing Birds Sing Might Be Just As Important To You As Your Next Paycheck, Here’s Why

More evidence that Mother Nature can boost your happiness like nothing else can… a new study suggests that bird diversity is as important to life satisfaction as an income is. This study, published in Ecological Economics on Nov 2020, found that not only is happiness correlated with local bird diversity, but a 10% boost in bird diversity actually increases happiness to a similar magnitude as a 10% boost in income does! We’ve known for a while that animals improve our mood, health, and even boost longevity (I’ve blogged about how pets can do all of this and more …

How Your Posture Is Impacting Your Health

Last year when I ran my annual Chakra Healing Class, one of the most interesting topics came up. On of the participants (thank you Steve!) mentioned that he noticed becoming more short of breath when his posture slumped. That brought on a wonderful discussion of all the different ways that poor posture literally physically affects your health… everything from dry mouth and dental issues to decreased oxygenation, decreased sleep quality and even increased ADHD symptoms.   But posture affects more than just our physical body… it affects our spirit.       In class I shared a link …
