Thoughts on Health… clinical evidence that seriousness affects your body

This is part two in my series called “Seriousness is a Disease.” There is ample evidence in the medical literature that a prolonged serious attitude causes damage and aging to our bodies. The longer I live the more I realize that when I approach life with a serious or overly intense, analytical mindframe instead of a forgiving, playful, loving, joyful one… the more I see the effects of seriousness show up physically in my body. Seriousness literally ages our very being. In part 1, I discuss the evidence that seriousness affects the brain. In part 2, today, I show the …

Thoughts On Health… Seriousness Is A Disease

I am very excited to present this video to you today.  This is a feeling I’ve had rumbling around in my heart for a while now… this feeling that seriousness is akin to a disease state.  Certainly there is a time and a place for seriousness… reacting seriously to some life situations can be life saving, as you become focused, clear-headed, and intent on a goal. The problem with being serious only arises when we live in this reactionary state. What was meant to be a short time response to intense, and even life-threatening, situations has a tendency to become …

Thoughts On Health… Cosmetics

Clara takes a few pictures of me plucking my eyebrows… and plucking my brows to open up the eye area is my favorite “beauty secret” by far! Although there are many types of preservatives and artificial colors and scents in make up that I’d prefer to avoid, I don’t have any set rules. I prefer not to use formulas with parabens in them, or petroleum products… but at the same time, I have a huge amount of respect for the human body and it’s ability to take in what is wanted, and filter out and excrete what is not. Yep, …

Starting 2011 Off On A Good Foot… After Rewinding A Bit…

Hello! Welcome to a fresh new year! A year filled with anything you can create… anything you want it to become. Our family took a few minutes on New Years Eve to write down (on our massive chalkboard that I blog about creating here) all the things we want to manifest in 2011. Then we walked around the house with a sage smudge stick and cleared the old energy out of each room, adding back in love and excitement for this new year. But a funny thing happened…. the smudge stick stayed lit while we walked through the downstairs, through …

Thoughts on Health FAQ… Healthy Cooking and Joyful Eating

My morning coffee… in a mug that my son painted for me Every single thing that goes into my body right now has to bring me joy, or I’m not putting it in my mouth. I’ve always lived by this philosophy… eating only the foods I *love* and feel great about… and I’ve always had a healthy relationship with my weight and my body. If I don’t like it, no matter how healthy I think it is… it doesn’t go in my mouth. And if I love it, really love it, feeling no guilt what-so-ever associated with it, I eat …

Why I wrote my first children’s book ever.

Why did I even do this? Here’s why… What Jake means to me. I wrote this book to say one thing: happiness can meet you anywhere. I really want kids to know that. I want grown ups to know that. I want myself to remember that. I want a book that I can pick up to remind me. You can invite happiness in to meet you right where you stand. Nothing needs to change at all. Joy can flow to you whether you live in a cage, in prison, in a diseased body, or are living your very last breath. …

Music and Our Souls

I was having a great conversation with my children over the weekend, and I had a wonderful thought. Okay, it might be a bit of a stretch, but I love the feeling I get when I think about it. And usually, if it makes me feel good, I can trust it. So, I think there may be some truth to this idea.     We were talking about how amazing and wonderful music is. And how much it lifts us throughout our day… singing a song while we wash our hands, humming a tune while we take a …
